1. Who we are
Assay is provided by Machines + Words (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/713540/07, a company registered in South Africa (“we”, “us”). The service is available at assayai.app.
2. What Assay does
Assay reads up to three public pages of each website you list, scores each company against a description you write, and attaches to every field the sentence it was read from and the page that sentence is on. A field whose sentence cannot be found on the page is marked unproven. Assay does not send email, does not find or store personal contact data, and does not build profiles of people.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or over and using Assay for a business.
- You are responsible for what happens under your login. Keep your password private.
- You may add teammates on plans that allow more than one seat. Each of them is bound by these terms.
4. Plans, price and payment
- Plans are described on the pricing page. Each plan sets how many companies may be read in a calendar month (UTC).
- Paid plans are billed monthly in advance, in US dollars, through PayPal. PayPal’s own terms apply to the payment itself.
- The founding price holds for twelve months from the date of the first payment, for the first ten accounts that take it.
- You can cancel at any time from the billing page. The plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund part months.
- We may change list prices with 30 days’ notice by email. A price change does not affect a founding account inside its locked period.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Assay to read a website whose terms forbid automated reading, where you know that to be the case;
- use the output to harass, deceive, or discriminate against anyone;
- attempt to read another account’s runs, or to defeat the caps, the access controls, or the Receipt Rule;
- resell Assay itself as your own product. Reselling the research you produce with it to your clients is what it is for.
6. Your data
- The lists you paste, the descriptions you write, and the runs Assay produces are yours. We store them so the product works, and we do not sell them or use them to train models.
- You can export every run as CSV at any time, and you can delete a run at any time.
- Our privacy policy at /privacy says what we store and for how long.
7. What we promise, and what we do not
- We promise that every field Assay marks as verified carries a sentence that was found, character for character after normalisation, on the page shown.
- We do not promise that the sentence is true, that the page is current, or that the score is right. Assay reads what a company published; the company may be wrong, and pages change. The re-audit feature exists because of that.
- Assay is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude all other warranties.
8. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything arising from Assay in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period. We are not liable for lost profit, lost data you did not export, or a client relationship that depended on a claim you did not check.
9. Ending the agreement
- You can close your account by writing to hello@assayai.app. We delete your runs within 30 days.
- We can suspend or close an account that breaks section 5, after telling you why, unless the breach is one that must be stopped at once.
10. Changes to these terms
We will give 30 days’ notice of a material change by email to the address on the account. Continuing to use Assay after that date is acceptance of the change.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. Nothing in them takes away a right you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.
